In Khmelnytskyi, a Nova Poshta terminal may have been targeted

In Khmelnytskyi, during the Russian attack, local media reported that a “Nova Poshta” facility may have been hit. Preliminary reports suggest a fire may have broken out there following the strike; however, there is currently no official confirmation that the company’s terminal was specifically targeted.

On the evening of September 9 and into the night of September 10, Russian forces attacked Khmelnytskyi with drones. The city’s air defense system was activated. After an enemy target was shot down, debris fell onto the grounds of one of the local markets. A fire broke out there, which was later extinguished. According to the State Emergency Service, a secondary explosion occurred while emergency responders were working at the scene.

Four rescue workers were injured in the explosion. It was later reported that a police officer had also been injured. In total, the number of people injured in the attack rose to five. At the same time, reports emerged in local social media groups and the media about a possible attack on a “Nova Poshta” terminal. According to preliminary reports, there may have been damage and a fire at the facility. So far, this information has not been officially confirmed. Therefore, it is too early to speak about the exact point of impact, the nature of the damage, or potential losses for “Nova Poshta.”

What is known about the “Nova Poshta” terminal in Khmelnytskyi

The Khmelnytskyi “Nova Poshta” innovation terminal opened in 2019. It is a large logistics complex through which thousands of shipments pass. The terminal handles the receipt, sorting, and subsequent shipment of packages. Its capacity is approximately 14,000 shipments per hour.

Facilities like this are a vital part of the postal network’s operations. It is here that packages are sorted by destination before being sent to other cities and branches. In the event of damage to the logistics center, the company can reroute some shipments to other routes and sorting facilities. “Nova Poshta” has already used backup logistics routes following previous attacks on its facilities.

Are there any casualties among employees?

As of the time of publication, there are no official reports of injuries among “Nova Poshta” employees resulting from the possible attack on the terminal in Khmelnytskyi. Five people are known to have been injured as a result of the attack on the city. Four of them are rescue workers who were on the scene of the fire; the other casualty is a police officer.

The fire at the market has been extinguished. Forty-five rescue workers and eight fire and rescue vehicles were deployed to the scene. Law enforcement officials have already launched an investigation into the Russian attack. According to the prosecutor’s office, debris from an enemy drone fell onto the clothing market, causing a fire that engulfed retail stalls covering an area of approximately 150 square meters. Information regarding the consequences of the attack is subject to change. If “Nova Poshta” or local authorities officially confirm damage to the terminal, the details will be updated. This is reported by local media.

On Thursday, September 10, Russian forces struck the “Gulliver” shopping center in Pavlohrad, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. Earlier reports indicated four fatalities and 62 injuries, including three children aged 13, 14, and 15.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the massive Russian attack on Ukraine and spoke about the consequences of the strike on Pavlohrad in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
