The Ukrainian military received 260,000 pairs of low-cut boots
The Ukrainian military received 260,000 pairs of ankle boots purchased by the Defense Procurement Agency (DOTA). The total cost of the shipment is nearly 560 million hryvnias, and the delivered footwear should be sufficient to fully meet the army’s annual need for this type of footwear.
The ankle boots are currently being distributed among units and issued to service members. Before delivery, the footwear was tested for durability and water resistance.
The DOT Defense Procurement Agency has completed the delivery of 260,000 pairs of ankle boots to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The total cost of the purchase was nearly 560 million hryvnias. The military received all the ordered footwear back in the summer. Currently, the footwear is being distributed among units and issued to service members. Thus, the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s annual need for this type of footwear has been fully met. Specifically, these are seasonal ankle boots used during the warmer months.
The Ministry of Defense notes that providing the military with clothing and footwear is part of the overall logistics support system. The needs of the units are taken into account during procurement planning.
What Are the New Low-Cut Boots Like?
The new footwear is made of textile materials and nubuck. It is designed for use at temperatures of +10 °C and above. One pair weighs about 900 grams—that is, approximately 450 grams per shoe. The boots feature protective inserts and a memory foam insole. These features are intended to make them more comfortable for extended wear by military personnel.
The Ministry of Defense previously explained that requirements for military footwear are adjusted based on the experiences of service members. In particular, lighter tactical ankle boots with better ventilation, lower weight, and a more flexible sole were introduced for warm weather.
Each batch is inspected before delivery
Before the footwear is distributed to service members, each batch undergoes testing. Specifically, tests assess the footwear’s durability and how it performs when exposed to water. This ensures the products meet established requirements before being issued to service members.
Such testing is crucial because military footwear must withstand significantly harsher conditions than ordinary everyday shoes. It is used during extended periods in the open, when moving across various types of terrain, and while performing official duties. The Ministry of Defense also emphasizes that feedback from service members is used to further improve field issue equipment. It is based on the results of this experience that requirements for specific pieces of equipment are adjusted.
Why Different Types of Footwear Are Purchased for Military Personnel
There is no single type of footwear suitable for all conditions of service. Service members need different models depending on the season, temperature, and nature of their missions. Lighter low-cut boots are used during warmer periods. They differ from high combat boots, which are required for other conditions.
The Ministry of Defense has already procured large batches of summer footwear for the military. In 2024, the ministry announced plans to purchase 550,000 pairs of summer boots for the army’s needs. Now, according to the Ministry of Defense, the annual demand for low-cut boots has been fully met.
Procurement for the army continues
The supply of footwear is just one aspect of supporting the Ukrainian military. At the same time, the government is procuring uniforms, protective gear, vehicles, drones, ammunition, and other necessary equipment. Since 2026, the Defense Procurement Agency and the State Logistics Operator have been operating as a single institution. The Ministry of Defense explained that following the merger, a single entity is responsible for various aspects of supplying the army, including field issue items.
One specific area is digital procurement through DOT-Chain Defense. Through this system, military personnel can order necessary equipment and other supplies according to the needs of their units. In 2026, hundreds of thousands of drones and other equipment had already been delivered to the military via the platform. Therefore, the procurement of 260,000 pairs of low-cut boots is intended to meet a specific seasonal need of the army. Currently, the main task is to distribute the received footwear among the units and provide it to service members. This information was reported by the Ministry of Defense’s press service.
As of the morning of September 10, 2026, the Russian army’s total personnel losses since the start of the full-scale invasion stand at approximately 1,502,390 soldiers. In the past 24 hours alone, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia lost another 1,520 servicemen.
