Satellite photos confirm the strike on the Su-33 in Anapa
Satellite images have appeared online confirming the destruction of a Russian Su-33 fighter jet at the Anapa airport following a Ukrainian strike on the night of September 9. The photos show the aircraft’s parking spot and its wreckage—in fact, only the wing survived.
The destruction of the Su-33 was previously reported by Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces. According to him, a Russian Mi-8 helicopter was also destroyed in Anapa along with the fighter jet.
New satellite images were analyzed by OSINT researchers from the “CyberBoro” community. They show the grounds of the V. K. Kokkinaki Anapa International Airport. It was on the airport grounds that the Russian Su-33, which was one of the targets of the Ukrainian attack, was located. The image shows significant debris from the aircraft at the spot where it was stationed.
According to OSINT researchers, equipment used to clear debris can also be seen near the impact site. Specifically, an excavator is visible in the photo. The Russian fighter jet had previously been mentioned in reports by the Ukrainian military. On September 9, Robert “Madyar” Brovdi stated that the Unmanned Systems Forces had destroyed a Su-33 and a Mi-8 in Anapa.
Russia lost a Su-33 during a nighttime attack
The strike on Anapa was part of a large-scale operation by Ukrainian forces on the night of September 9. At the same time, the Ukrainian military attacked Russian military targets in Novorossiysk and the Gelendzhik area.
In Novorossiysk, according to Brovdi, the Russians lost several military ships, including missile carriers. Near Gelendzhik, Ukrainian forces also struck two Russian radar systems—the “Kasta 2E2” and the 92N6 radar, part of the S-300/S-400 systems. Thus, in a single operation, Ukrainian forces struck several elements of Russian military infrastructure along the Black Sea coast.
Su-33 — Russian carrier-based fighter
The Su-33 is a Soviet and Russian carrier-based fighter jet developed from the Su-27. The aircraft is designed for operation from aircraft carriers and is classified as a fourth-generation fighter. Russia uses the Su-33 as part of its naval aviation. Due to the aircraft’s specific characteristics and the limited number of such aircraft, every loss has a significant impact on Russian military capabilities.
In this instance, the aircraft was not on board a ship but at a land-based facility near Anapa. It was there that it was successfully struck during a nighttime attack. The Ukrainian side stated that the Su-33 was destroyed specifically by unmanned aerial systems. This information was publicly announced by SBS Commander Robert “Madyar.”
A Mi-8 was also destroyed along with the fighter jet
According to the same information, during the strike in Anapa, Ukrainian drones also destroyed a Russian Mi-8 helicopter. The Mi-8 is one of the most common Russian military helicopters. These helicopters are used to transport personnel and cargo, for evacuation, and—depending on the model—to carry out other military missions.
The strike on two aerial targets was part of a broader attack. Ukrainian forces simultaneously targeted military facilities in several districts of the Krasnodar Krai.
The strike hit a military target
According to the Ukrainian command, the target in Anapa was specifically Russian military equipment. Ukrainian forces have repeatedly struck facilities used by Russia to wage war against Ukraine. This time, the strikes targeted not only aircraft and helicopters. In Novorossiysk, Ukrainian forces attacked a naval base, and in the Gelendzhik area, they struck Russian radar systems.
New satellite images provide additional visual confirmation of the aftermath of the strike on the Su-33. They allow one to assess the condition of the aircraft after the attack and see that only scattered fragments remain of the fighter jet. At the same time, the Ukrainian side has not disclosed specific details regarding how the aircraft was hit or the circumstances of its destruction. The only publicly known information is that the strike took place on the night of September 8–9, and that the Unmanned Systems Forces claimed responsibility for the destruction of the Su-33. A recent satellite photo has been published on the community’s Telegram channel.
As of the morning of September 10, 2026, the Russian army’s total personnel losses since the start of the full-scale invasion stand at approximately 1,502,390 soldiers. In the past 24 hours alone, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia lost another 1,520 servicemen.
The day before, 221 combat engagements were recorded on the front lines. The enemy launched the most attacks in the Pokrovsk direction, where the Defense Forces repelled 21 assaults, and Russian troops lost more than 60 occupiers.
