FSB agent detained in Kyiv for “hunting” military data

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) conducted a successful special operation in the capital, detaining a 40-year-old employee of the information security department of a commercial bank, the SBU reported.

The man, who had access to confidential databases, was working for the Russian FSB, providing the occupiers with personal data on Ukrainian defenders and volunteers.

Thanks to the professional actions of SBU cyber specialists, the espionage activities were stopped while critical information was still being collected. This prevented the use of the data for preparing terrorist attacks, targeted killings, or recruitment operations against Ukrainian patriots.

According to the investigation, the bank employee attracted the attention of Russian intelligence due to his activity on banned social networks, where he expressed anti-Ukrainian views. After being recruited, he received a series of “test” tasks from his handler, which later escalated into systematic intelligence gathering.

SBU officers detained the suspect at his place of residence. During searches, law enforcement discovered a significant arsenal of espionage tools: four smartphones, numerous SIM cards for covert communication, and three laptops containing archives of confidential information.

It should be recalled that the SBU and police have previously detained seven organisers of schemes to evade mobilization. The SBU has also uncovered new schemes to avoid mobilization across Ukraine.
