In Kryvyi Rih, people bid farewell to a father and son who were killed in a Russian attack

On August 28, a funeral service was held in Kryvyi Rih for Maksym Krasytskyi and his son David, who were killed in the Russian attack on the “Sunny Gallery” shopping center on August 21. The father and son were very close, spent a lot of time together, and were killed during the strike on the shopping center.

Relatives, friends, and acquaintances came to bid Maksym and Davyd a final farewell and to support their family. For their loved ones, this loss was a tremendous tragedy—Maxim and David’s younger son, Matviy, was with them at the time of the attack; he survived but sustained serious injuries and remains in the hospital.

What is known

Anna Krasytska, David’s mother and Maksym’s wife, said that her husband and son had a very close relationship; they often spent time together, even traveling together on their father’s business trips. The son was very much like his father.

“They had such a strong bond that they were always together—all the time. Dad often took David along on business trips. David was very much like Maksym—intellectual, so smart. Dad knew English and German and worked for humanitarian organizations. Maxim worked at TsGOK, SevGOK, and KRMZ enterprises. Many people knew Maxim, and he was very optimistic and cheerful. He was never sad; he always looked on the bright side of things. And David was very close to his father. David was very much like him—very smart. He had a bright future ahead of him, and he was just a wonderful child—so well-mannered,” the woman said.

Alla Krasytska said that on that day, her husband had left work early and gone to the shopping center with his sons. When the explosion occurred, David’s brother Matviy was thrown back by the blast wave; he miraculously survived and is currently in the hospital, where he is scheduled to be transferred from the ICU to a regular ward.

“It just so happened that they all went together to pick up Matviy. Dad got off work early, and they went to the mall. And Matviy… it’s just some kind of miracle that he survived. He was right there with them, and he was thrown back. He fought so hard for his life. We haven’t told Matviy anything yet, but he’s figuring it out. Today they’re transferring him from the ICU to a regular ward. I’m so grateful to everyone, so grateful to everyone—so many people have written to me, the whole city of Kryvyi Rih. Such support,” says Anna.

He Planned to Enroll in an Academic Lyceum

This year, David finished 9th grade at his lyceum and was planning to enroll in an academic lyceum. His entrance exams were scheduled for August 25, according to Oleksiy Simanko, the acting principal of the gymnasium where David studied.

“We taught and nurtured this child for nine years; he was very, very intelligent and well-mannered—he was our pride and joy, and we are proud of him. David won awards in history Olympiads and in the Young Scientists Association’s research paper defense competitions; he loved his country dearly and loved his family very much. He had a special bond with his father, who, by the way, helped out at the school alongside his mother. They were members of the parent committee,” he said.

This was reported by Suspilne Dnipro. In total, 16 people were killed and about 130 were injured that day as a result of the Russian shelling of the shopping center.
