In honor of May 9, mobile Internet and SMS were restricted for several days in Moscow

Telecom operators have warned of temporary restrictions on mobile internet and SMS messaging in Moscow from May 5 to 9.

This was reported on Monday, May 4, by Russian Telegram channels.

According to the Telegram channels, Moscow residents have begun receiving messages from operators warning of the restrictions. This information was confirmed by Beeline.

Russian journalist Ksenia Sobchak posted a screenshot of such a message on her Telegram channel. It states that from May 5 to 9 in Moscow, “temporary restrictions” on mobile internet and SMS are “possible” “to ensure security measures.” Residents are advised to use Wi-Fi to access the internet.

On April 29, the BBC Russian Service reported, citing a source, that “more severe” restrictions on mobile communications are planned ahead of the May 9 parade in Moscow. One of the journalists’ sources said that on May 5, 7, and 9, the authorities plan to restrict all mobile communications and, possibly, SMS messaging. This information was later confirmed by Kommersant’s sources in the telecom market, as well as by Forbes sources. “There will be restrictions, but their scale is unclear at this point,” said one of Kommersant’s sources.

As a reminder, mobile internet service was disrupted in St. Petersburg following a drone attack.

In the Belgorod region of Russia, mobile internet was completely shut down.

In Russia, government agencies have once again shut down the entire internet.

Later, in the Moscow region, internet restrictions were imposed ahead of May 9.
