In Moscow, students were evacuated from universities for the third time this week

On September 28 in Moscow, at least four higher education institutions were evacuated. Students and staff were led out of the buildings due to reports of a security threat, alarm activations, and fire drills.

At the Russian University of Medicine on Delegatskaya Street, all students and staff were evacuated. The preliminary reason given was a report of an alleged bomb threat.

People were also evacuated from the buildings of the Russian University of People’s Friendship (RUDN). Officials there stated that the evacuation occurred after a fire alarm went off, and students were informed of a training drill. TASS, however, reported that the university was conducting training evacuations of academic buildings and dormitories and denied reports of a bomb threat.

An evacuation also took place in two buildings at the Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics. University officials attributed the situation to reports of a “security threat.” The dormitories, however, were not evacuated.

In addition, students at the State University of Education were sent home before classes began, and classes were switched to a remote format.

This is already the third wave of evacuations at Moscow universities this week. The previous incidents on September 24 and 25 affected at least 14 universities and colleges in the capital.

As a reminder, Ukrainian defense forces damaged five workshops at a military plant in Russia.

On the night of September 26, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck a number of key facilities on Russian territory that support the Russian military machine. Among them were the Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant in the Rostov region and the “Ilsky” oil refinery in the Krasnodar region.

As a reminder, the Perm oil refinery in Russia ceased operations following an attack by Ukrainian drones on September 25. According to Reuters, a fire broke out at the facility, and pipelines, storage tanks, and processing units were damaged. It is not yet known when the refinery will be able to resume operations.
