NATO doubts that Russia will be able to capture the rest of Donbas by the end of 2027
NATO does not believe that Russia is capable of capturing the belt of Ukrainian fortress cities in the Donbas by the end of 2027.
A senior NATO official made this statement on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara.
According to him, despite the Kremlin’s intentions, the Russian army is facing a shortage of personnel, which complicates not only its offensive but also its ability to hold onto already captured territories. This allows the Ukrainian military to effectively contain the enemy for an extended period.
The NATO representative also noted that, according to Russia’s initial plans, the capture of Ukrainian cities was supposed to take only a few days, yet fierce fighting continues there to this day.
The Alliance emphasized that there are currently no compelling reasons to believe that Russia will be able to fully capture the rest of the Donbas within the next year.
