An air raid alert was declared in Przemyśl after a drone crashed near the border
Poland reported that a drone crashed or was shot down 4 km from the border with Ukraine in Volhynia. An air raid alert was issued following an explosion near Przemyśl.
On Thursday, September 17, an explosion occurred near the “Yagodin” border crossing in the Volyn region. So far, there have been no official comments from Ukrainian authorities regarding whether the drone was hit or if air defense systems were activated. Meanwhile, Przemysl Mayor Wojciech Bakun announced that an air raid alert had been declared in several Polish counties.
Information about the explosion appeared on local Telegram channels during the air raid alert, which was in effect in the Volyn region from 12:22 p.m. to 1:03 p.m. According to eyewitnesses, a loud noise was heard around 12:53 p.m. near the “Yagodyn” border crossing. Earlier reports indicated a strike near the border with Poland.
At 12:58 p.m., Przemysl Mayor Wojciech Bakun wrote on his Facebook page that an air raid alert—which was not a drill—had been declared in several Polish counties. Specifically, these include:
- the city of Krosno;
- the city of Przemyśl;
- Bieszczady County;
- Brzozów County;
- Jasło County;
- Krosno County;
- Lisk County;
- Przemyśl County;
- Sanok County;
- Strzyżów County.
Meanwhile, the Polish website Port Samorządowy reported that an air raid alert was issued in the Lublin and Podkarpackie provinces, and the Civil Protection Bureau (RCB) sent warnings to residents about the threat of an air attack. According to the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces, a drone crashed or was shot down 4 km from the Polish-Ukrainian border. As the drone was rapidly approaching the border, the Polish military scrambled fighter jets.
At 1:57 p.m., Przemysl Mayor Wojciech Bakun announced that the air raid alert had been lifted in Polish cities and counties.
On the morning of September 17, Russian troops struck the “Epicenter” shopping mall in Kharkiv. As a result of the attack, the building sustained significant damage and caught fire.
Earlier, Russia attacked Izyum with KAB bombs; among the victims was a two-month-old baby.
On September 10, in Kyiv’s Svyatoshynsky District, a drone crashed in an open area in the woods near a shopping center. According to preliminary reports, there was no fire and no casualties.
In the Solomyanskyi district of Kyiv, an enemy drone struck the roof of a four-story business center. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene to investigate the circumstances and address the aftermath of the incident.
