In the Moscow region, more than 10,000 customers were left without power following a massive drone attack
Following a nighttime attack by Ukrainian drones on the Moscow region, two cities in the eastern part of the region experienced widespread power outages. More than 10,000 customers and 46 public facilities were left without power.
The cause was “damage to power grid equipment belonging to a higher-level power grid organization,” which resulted in the loss of power to 109 transformer substations in the urban districts of Likino-Dulyovo and Orekhovo-Zuyevo.
Starting at 5:30 a.m., a special operating mode was implemented on the grids of the Pavlovo-Posadsky branch of “Mosoblenergo.”
According to reports from residents on social media, the power went out during the night.
“Likino-Dulyovo has been without power since 3:00 a.m. due to drones crashing,” wrote one user on the “Overheard in Orekhovo-Zuyevo” public group.
Mosoblenergo stated that it planned to restore power by 8:30 a.m., but around 9:00 a.m., residents of Likino-Dulyovo were still reporting a power outage.
Some users noted that power had been partially restored, but the voltage remained low, causing some household appliances to malfunction.
Several emergency crews and 35 mobile power stations with a total capacity of 17 MW were deployed to address the aftermath of the incident.
Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov stated that over 150 drones were allegedly intercepted in the region overnight.
According to him, the drones were detected in the areas of Bogorodsk, Ramensk, Pavlovsky Posad, Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Voskresensk, Stupino, Kolomna, and Elektrostal.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated that between the evening of August 17 and the morning of August 18, 637 Ukrainian UAVs were launched toward the capital; at least 180 of them, he said, were shot down directly in the Moscow region.
Thus, the nighttime raid became one of the largest since the start of the full-scale war, based on the number of drones reported by Russian authorities.
A massive power outage in the Moscow region following a drone attack had already been recorded on December 30, 2025.
At that time, according to reports from Russian authorities, more than 120,000 residents were left without power.
As a reminder, on August 18, a drone struck a Wildberries warehouse in the Bogorodsky Urban District of the Moscow Region, after which a fire broke out at the facility. Russian authorities reported a large-scale drone attack on the Moscow region, where, according to their data, more than 150 drones were shot down.
