Poland has warned of a real threat posed by a Russian attack on western Ukraine
The Russian attack on Ukraine on the night of September 13 took place so close to the Polish border that Poland scrambled fighter jets. Polish military authorities stated that some of the Russian drones were operating just a few kilometers from Polish territory.
This was reported by Lieutenant Colonel Jacek Goryshevsky, a spokesperson for the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command.
According to him, the Russian drones were not only near the Polish border but were also striking targets at distances ranging from a few to several dozen kilometers from Polish territory. As a result, the military assessed the situation as a real and immediate threat.
After 4:00 a.m., the Polish Operational Command reported that military aircraft had been deployed in response to an attack by Russian strike drones on Ukraine. Polish fighter jets patrolled the country’s airspace, and the operation concluded around 10:00 a.m.
In light of the attack, residents of the Lublin and Subcarpathian provinces received warnings about a possible air threat. Sirens also sounded in six counties of the Lublin Province.
In addition, Polish police received a report of a possible explosion in the Lublin Voivodeship. Law enforcement officers investigated the report in Szczecin, Krasnik County, and Stojeszyn, First Janów County, but found no evidence of an explosion there.
Polish military officials speculated that the loud noises might have been caused by fighter jets breaking the sound barrier.
At the same time, no direct violation of Polish airspace by Russian drones was recorded. Despite this, the proximity of the strikes to the border prompted Polish military forces to implement enhanced response measures.
