In Kurgan, Russia, drones attacked the "Kurganmashzavod" plant

Loud explosions were heard in the city of Kurgan, Kurgan Oblast, Russian Federation, after which a drone alert was issued for the region. This was reported by local Russian Telegram channels.

An air raid alert was declared in the Kurgan Oblast at 12:02 p.m. Kyiv time.

This is not the first time a drone alert has been issued in the region—similar warnings were recorded on May 5 and 29, 2026.

According to information circulating online, smoke was spotted near the Kurganmashzavod plant following the explosions. Based on an analysis of photos and videos published by Astra, the source of the smoke may be located on the plant’s premises.

“Kurganmashzavod” is one of Russia’s key defense enterprises. The plant specializes in the production of BMP-2 and BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles and their modernized versions, and also manufactures civilian equipment, including snowmobiles, amphibious vehicles, and equipment for the logging industry.

In addition to this plant, other large industrial enterprises operate in the Kurgan region, including:

  • the Kurgan Bus Plant, which manufactures buses and, at certain times, supplied about 30% of the Russian market;
  • the Khimmash Plant, which specializes in the production of equipment for the chemical industry;
  • enterprises producing firefighting equipment and steel bridge structures;
  • the “Sintez” pharmaceutical plant, which is one of the largest manufacturers of antibiotics, medicines, and medical devices in Russia.
