Russia has reported the death of TV host and director Pimanov

Russian TV presenter, director, and media executive Alexei Pimanov, who worked for many years within Russia’s military-propaganda media apparatus, has died. He headed the Krasnaya Zvezda holding company, authored and produced a number of television projects, and directed films with explicit political and propaganda content. Over the years, Pimanov was subject to sanctions by Ukraine and several Western countries due to his activities in the Russian information sphere.

Alexei Pimanov was known in Russia as a TV host and producer who built his career around state television and military themes. He headed the television channel and media holding “Krasnaya Zvezda,” which are part of the Russian Ministry of Defense, and was involved in creating content aimed at a military audience and state propaganda.

One of his most famous projects was the feature film “Crimea” (2017), which was marketed in Russia as a dramatic story based on the events of 2014. The film drew sharp criticism for its one-sided interpretation of events and its portrayal of Russia’s annexation of Crimea in a justifying light, which was one of the reasons Pimanov was added to the sanctions lists of Ukraine and certain Western countries.

In addition to film, Pimanov worked for a long time on Russian television, where he created and hosted programs on social, political, and military topics. His work was closely tied to the Russian Federation’s state media structures, which actively shaped the Kremlin’s official position in the information sphere.

Over the years, he also served as a screenwriter and producer for a number of television and documentary projects, which often had a patriotic or military-historical character in the Russian interpretation. Pimanov himself considered his work to be part of the informational support for Russia’s state policy.

Information regarding the causes and circumstances of his death is being clarified at the time of publication.
