Mobile internet has gone down again in St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg is experiencing yet another mobile internet outage: users report being able to access only the so-called “whitelisted” websites. Complaints began coming in on the morning of May 2 and quickly rose to the thousands.

Russian Telegram channels are reporting on this.

According to Downdetector, complaints from users began coming in at 7:00 a.m. Moscow time, and by 11:50 a.m., the number had reached 2,400. City residents note that access is limited to sites on the “whitelist,” while other resources, messaging apps, and gaming servers are unavailable.

Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko had previously announced the threat of a drone attack and warned of a “possible slowdown in mobile internet speeds.”

Similar outages occur regularly in St. Petersburg. In particular, a major outage was recorded on April 5—at that time, more than 1,800 complaints were received following the announcement of an air threat. Outages also occurred on March 17 and 9, and each time Drozdov reported a threat from UAVs and a reduction in speed.

At the same time, on March 22, the internet in the city also went down, but neither local authorities nor the Russian Ministry of Defense announced any danger, and the region was not mentioned in reports of drone attacks.

As a reminder, in St. Petersburg, mobile internet service was disrupted following a drone attack.

In the Belgorod region of Russia, mobile internet was completely shut down.

In Russia, government agencies have once again shut down the entire internet.
