The Center for Political and Public Opinion Research called for sanctions against the Russian animated series Masha and the Bear

On July 9, Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, called for sanctions against the Russian animated series “Masha and the Bear” and Animaccord, the studio that created it.

Kovalenko supported the initiative of British lawmakers who called for a ban on the cartoon’s broadcast in the United Kingdom. According to him, “Masha and the Bear” is one of the tools of Russian propaganda and so-called “soft power,” aimed primarily at children.

“Masha and the Bear is one of those Russian products that should be restricted in the civilized world. It’s gratifying that British parliamentarians fully support this position and have called for a ban. This program is a tool of Russian propaganda and soft power that directly promotes Russia’s cultural vision and is aimed at children,” wrote the head of the Center for Children and Youth Policy.

He emphasized that Russia systematically uses children’s content to shape a positive perception of its state among future generations in various countries.

According to Kovalenko, the Center for Countering Disinformation has long recommended imposing sanctions on both the animated series itself and the Russian studio “Animaccord,” which produces it.

Kovalenko announced this on Telegram.

The Russian cartoon “Masha and the Bear” has topped the list of the most popular children’s YouTube channels in Ukraine.

There are calls to ban the cartoon “Masha and the Bear,” and the National Police will join the sanctions effort.

The Ministry of Culture has supported the imposition of sanctions against the Russian cartoon “Masha and the Bear.”

Netflix has purchased new seasons of the animated series, which Russia uses to promote its narratives.
