The Flamingo strike could hit the Russian Rassvet satellite system
Russia is using “Soyuz-2.1b” launch vehicles to put “Rassvet” satellites into orbit, which are intended to serve as a counterpart to Starlink.
According to presidential adviser Sergei “Flash” Beskrestnov, the components of these rockets, with the exception of the engines, are manufactured at the Progress plant, which Ukraine recently attacked with “Flamingo” missiles.
“Rassvet” satellites have already been launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome. They can also be launched into orbit from Baikonur and the Vostochny Cosmodrome.
A single “Soyuz-2.1b” is capable of placing about 20 satellites into orbit. According to Beskrestnov’s estimate, Russia will need about 12–15 launches to create the basic “Rassvet” constellation.
He noted that it is currently unknown to what extent the damage to the “Progress” plant has affected rocket production and future launches. At the same time, a series of strikes would be required to completely destroy such a large-scale production facility.
Russia also has the heavy “Angara-A5” rocket, though its launches occur much less frequently. Theoretically, it is capable of placing up to 60 satellites into orbit at once.
