The fuel crisis in Russia has reached Moscow: there is already a gasoline shortage in 30 regions

A new wave of gasoline shortages is gaining momentum in Russia—fuel shortages have been reported in at least 30 regions, and now the shortages have reached Moscow as well.

At some gas stations in the capital and the surrounding region, drivers cannot find A-95 gasoline, and long lines are forming at the stations. Local residents report lines up to half a kilometer long. Diesel fuel, meanwhile, remains more readily available.

Some regions have already imposed official restrictions on gasoline sales. Shortages are also being reported in the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, as well as in the Rostov, Nizhny Novgorod, Voronezh, Volgograd, and Moscow regions, among others, and in Crimea.

Prices are also rising amid the shortage. In the Moscow region, eyewitnesses report that A-95 is selling for 140 rubles per liter, while A-92 costs about 127 rubles.

These problems have already begun to affect the agricultural sector. Farmers complain that they cannot properly refuel their tractors and combines ahead of the harvest, and some of the work has to be postponed.

The situation is further complicated by scheduled maintenance at major Russian refineries and at one of the Belarusian plants that supplies fuel to Russia. Gasoline imported from India and Morocco has also not yet reached the Russian market—according to industry sources, some of the fuel is stuck on tankers in Murmansk due to disputes over the selling price.

Russian authorities managed to partially stabilize the previous shortage by redistributing supplies among regions and through imports, but this time the problems may prove to be more widespread.
