Ukrainian drone strikes are thwarting Russia's offensive plans – The Independent

The widespread use of Ukrainian medium-range drones (operating 30 to 180 kilometers from the front lines) is having a devastating impact on the logistics and air defense of the Russian occupation forces.

This is reported by the influential British publication The Independent. Thanks to this strategy, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are successfully destroying radars, communication nodes, supply depots, and heavy equipment deep behind enemy lines, which has significantly slowed the pace of Russian advances on the battlefield.

The effectiveness of the new tactics is confirmed by direct combatants and military leadership:

  • Robert (Madyar) Brovdi, commander of the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces, emphasized that it is precisely medium-range strikes that are currently playing a key role in weakening the enemy. The weakening of the occupiers’ air defense on the front lines opens corridors for long-range Ukrainian UAVs, which can now more easily penetrate deep into Russian territory and strike strategic oil facilities. Since the beginning of the year alone, his units have destroyed at least 129 air defense systems in the occupied territories.

  • The commander of a unit of the 414th Separate UAV Brigade, call sign “Kusto, noted that since the fall, Ukraine’s capabilities in this sector have increased dramatically thanks to an increase in the number of operators, the expansion of operations, and the diversification of platforms. His battalion focuses on targets within a radius of up to 100 kilometers, actively employing domestically produced aircraft-type strike drones, specifically the “Chaklun-V” system. Thanks to manual control, strike accuracy is maximized—typically no more than three drones are required to destroy a single target.

According to official data from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, in April alone, the Ukrainian military carried out over 160 successful strikes deep into enemy territory. Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) attribute the slowdown in the Russian army’s offensive pace specifically to the effective countermeasures of the Ukrainian drone fleet. Finnish military experts add that while medium-range strikes alone are not capable of instantly turning the tide of war, they pose critical challenges for the Russian command, forcing the enemy to chaotically redeploy the remnants of its defense systems.

Ukrainian “long-range strikes” have hit Russian targets at distances of up to 1,000 km

Earlier in the Belgorod region of Russia, a Russian fighter jet accidentally dropped a high-explosive bomb on railroad tracks during a combat sortie, causing an electric train to derail.

Attacks on oil refineries have costRussia over $7 billion since the start of the year — WP.
