Ukraine and the United States are holding regular daily consultations regarding a possible ceasefire along the current line of contact.

In addition, international partners have resumed informal negotiations with representatives of the Russian Federation to seek compromise solutions.

Within the framework of bilateral tracks, relevant agencies are conducting a detailed analysis of several scenarios for ending active combat operations aimed at attrition.

“One of the ideas under consideration is a two-stage ceasefire: first, limiting hostilities within a 50–70 km zone on both sides of the front line, followed by a broader agreement,” the publication states.

This approach should significantly reduce the intensity of artillery and rocket fire directly in the border areas.

The implementation of these diplomatic plans depends heavily on domestic political processes in partner countries and the Kremlin’s expectations regarding the U.S. elections.

A high-ranking Ukrainian official noted that Russia is unlikely to take active steps before October, when it may want to support Trump in the midterm elections “and get something in return.”

As a result, Moscow may deliberately slow down the negotiation process during the summer months.

It is more likely that the Russian side will drag out the process until next spring, counting on the fact that large-scale winter attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure will force Kyiv to make concessions.

The Kremlin is attempting to use the cold season as an additional tool to exert pressure on the civilian population and the country’s leadership.

Western analysts predict attempts to intensify missile attacks on critical life-support facilities as winter approaches.

This is reported by the authoritative publication The Economist, citing its own informed sources in diplomatic circles.
