The Ukrainian military unveiled the Pegasus all-terrain vehicle for off-road operations
The 115th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade has developed its own ground-based robotic system (GRS) called “Pegas,” capable of navigating difficult off-road terrain and transporting heavy loads. According to the developers, during testing, the robot successfully operated in terrain where most off-the-shelf counterparts cannot move, and its cost turned out to be several times lower than that of factory-made models.
The idea to create “Pegas” arose after the military encountered problems moving equipment following heavy rains. According to Boris, an engineer with the brigade, even ATVs could not always get through, while standard ground robots got stuck in the mud.
This is precisely what prompted the military to create its own robotic system adapted to frontline conditions. The brigade set up an engineering workshop where they manufacture ground-based robotic systems and modernize equipment to meet the troops’ needs.
“Pegas” was developed for specific combat missions, rather than according to factory standards. The robot features increased ground clearance, airless tires, and a modular design that allows it to be quickly adapted to various terrain conditions.
Currently, the system is used primarily for logistics. It delivers water, fuel, food, and ammunition to the front lines, carries up to 200 kg of cargo, and during testing withstood a load of 370 kg.
One of the key advantages of “Pegasus” is its system of replaceable batteries, which allows the robot to be quickly returned to service without lengthy charging. Special batteries for the system were developed by engineers from the Lviv-based company PAWELL Battery.
The system’s developers reported this to RBC-Ukraine.
As a reminder, in June, units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out more than 16,600 logistics and evacuation missions using ground-based robotic systems (GRS), which is 18.6% higher than in May.
Russian drones are complicating supply operations for Ukrainian troops on the eastern bank of the Oskil River. However, overall, the Defense Forces’ logistics remain more efficient than those of the Russian army.
