Ukrainian UAVs Could Radically Change the Situation on the Front Lines — ISW

Ukraine’s new guided glide bomb could significantly enhance the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ ability to strike Russian troops, equipment, and logistics.

This is stated in a new report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Analysts note that the testing of Ukraine’s first domestically produced guided aerial bomb opens up new opportunities for Ukraine to strike targets not only near the front lines but also deep within the enemy’s operational rear.

The ISW emphasizes that the Ukrainian military is already effectively disrupting Russian logistics using drones, but the new weaponry can deliver significantly more powerful strikes, particularly against well-fortified targets, thanks to its greater payload capacity.

Analysts also noted that the Russian army is actively using long-range guided bombs, which allow its air force to strike without entering the range of Ukrainian air defense systems.

According to the ISW, the introduction of similar weapons by Ukraine could partially offset this Russian advantage, especially given Ukraine’s limited fleet of combat aircraft and the need to minimize risks to aircraft near the front lines.
