Ukraine was asked not to target Russian oil due to the global energy crisis: here’s what Zelenskyy said
Ukraine continues to target Russian energy infrastructure, despite calls from international partners to curb such actions due to the risks they pose to global markets.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement in a comment to Newsmax.
Western allies justified their requests by citing instability in the energy sector, which has intensified due to events in the Middle East.
The head of state rejected these appeals, emphasizing that Russia continues to shell Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure on a daily basis. Zelenskyy underscored Ukraine’s right to take retaliatory measures to defend its own territory. At the same time, he noted that the country is theoretically open to the idea of a mutual cessation of attacks on energy infrastructure, though no official proposals for such a truce have been received so far.
The president concluded that in the absence of specific agreements, Ukraine will use all available means to repel the aggressor. Earlier, he also noted the effectiveness of long-range attacks on Russian oil ports as part of the sanctions pressure. The situation remains tense, as Kyiv insists on parity of actions within the framework of the country’s defense.
