The Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant in the Rostov Region of the Russian Federation, which was struck on the night of September 26, produced components for weapons systems used in direct combat operations. This was stated by Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy.

According to him, the component base is the weakest link in the Russian Federation’s defense-industrial complex, since most components in modern enemy weapons systems are of foreign origin. The facility supplied microelectronics and optical components for various UAVs, aircraft, and missiles.

Pletenchuk emphasized that the destruction of such facilities will significantly complicate the Russian army’s ability to maintain the pace of weapons production used to carry out airstrikes.

On the night of September 26, Ukrainian defense forces struck a number of key facilities on Russian territory that support the Russian military machine. Among them were the Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant in the Rostov region and the Ilsky Oil Refinery in the Krasnodar region.

As a reminder, the Perm Oil Refinery in Russia ceased operations following an attack by Ukrainian drones on September 25. According to Reuters, a fire broke out at the facility, and pipelines, storage tanks, and processing units were damaged. It is not yet known when the refinery will be able to resume operations.
