A state of emergency has been declared in occupied Crimea and Sevastopol
On June 26, the occupying authorities of Crimea and Sevastopol announced the imposition of a regional state of emergency on the peninsula. The decision is justified by the need to address “economic issues” and ensure the population’s basic needs are met under the current circumstances.
This was jointly announced by the so-called “head” of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, and the “governor” of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev. They claim that the new regime will help the occupying administrations respond more quickly to challenges.
The state of emergency on the peninsula took effect at 1:00 p.m. It will remain in place until “the situation improves.”
The collaborators claim that the state of emergency is needed primarily to “streamline economic matters.” They say this will allow for the prompt resolution of problems on which life on the peninsula depends.
In reality, however, the occupiers are attempting to tighten their control amid regular strikes by the Ukrainian Defense Forces on their military facilities and logistics.
The state of emergency expands the aggressor’s powers, allowing it to manually control the resources and economy of occupied Crimea.
