In Russia, fires broke out at the Lukoil oil refinery and the Azot chemical plant following a drone attack

In Russia, following a drone attack, fires broke out at the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, and at the Azot chemical plant in Nevinnomyssk, Stavropol Krai.

This was reported by the ASTRA Telegram channel.

According to OSINT analysts, one of the key facilities at the refinery in the southwestern part of the plant was hit in Kstovo. This is likely the ELOU-AVT unit—a basic combined system for primary oil refining.

This unit is responsible for preparing crude oil and separating it into the main fractions necessary for further fuel production.

Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries and plays a vital role in supplying fuel to the Moscow region. The facility’s primary processing capacity is approximately 17 million tons of crude oil per year.

The plant produces over 50 types of products, including gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel, as well as bitumen and paraffins.

In addition, a drone attack caused a fire at the Azot chemical plant in Nevinnomyssk. This facility has been targeted multiple times—specifically in January, March, and May 2026, as well as in August and December 2025.

Meanwhile, Reuters reports that the Moscow oil refinery suspended production for at least several days following a drone attack on the night of May 17.
