In Russia, a resident of occupied Yalta was sentenced to prison for planning a terrorist attack

The Southern District Military Court of the Russian Federation sentenced a resident of occupied Yalta to 22 years in prison in a case involving the alleged “planning of a terrorist attack.” The verdict has not yet become final. 

According to the Russian side, the man was sentenced to 22 years in a maximum-security prison.

He must serve the first five years in prison. The court also fined him 250,000 rubles, which, according to the report, is equivalent to 133,000 hryvnias.

According to the Southern District Military Court of the Russian Federation, in February–early March 2024, while in Yalta, the man allegedly established contact with an SBU representative via an internet app.

The Russian side claims that he allegedly agreed to carry out missions on Russian territory and assist the Ukrainian security service.

“He agreed to carry out tasks on the territory of the Russian Federation and to assist the Ukrainian special services,” the Russian side asserts.

According to the court, the man was allegedly tasked with purchasing explosives and other components, manufacturing an improvised explosive device, and hiding it on the territory of occupied Crimea.

Russian law enforcement agencies also claim that he purchased the explosive device and components for a homemade bomb and stored them in his apartment until his arrest.

The ruling of the Southern District Military Court of the Russian Federation has not yet become final, so it may be appealed in accordance with the procedure established by Russian law.

At the same time, the circumstances of the case described above are based on the version presented by the Russian court and security agencies. There is no independent confirmation of their claims in publicly available reports.

Thus, a resident of occupied Yalta was sentenced in the Russian Federation to 22 years in prison and a fine on charges that the Russian side links to the alleged preparation of an explosion and cooperation with the SBU.

Earlier, a Russian court sentenced Olga Denisova, a 39-year-old resident of Donetsk Oblast, to five years in a penal colony. The woman was found guilty of allegedly aiding and abetting participation in a “terrorist community” through her work as a laundress at a military unit where the “Azov” battalion was based.

In Russia, an aggressor state, Mykola Zuyzev, a citizen of Canada and Russia, was sentenced to seven years in prison for treason.
