699 children have been killed in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war
Since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 699 children have been killed, and another 2,457 minors have sustained injuries of varying severity.
This was reported by the Ukrainian Juvenile Police, noting that as of April 16, 2026, 3,156 children had become official victims of Russian military aggression. These figures are not final, as efforts to verify them in areas of active combat and in temporarily occupied territories are ongoing.
Law enforcement agencies continue their systematic efforts to locate missing children. Since February 2022, the police have processed thousands of relevant reports, resulting in the location and return of 52,276 minors. Official statistics are constantly updated as new facts are uncovered in de-occupied territories and data from other sources is verified.
Crimes against children are the most egregious manifestations of the terror perpetrated by the Russian Federation against the civilian population. Unlike the aggressor, which cynically violates international conventions and carries out deportations, Ukraine focuses on the safety of every child and the documentation of every war crime. The collection of this data is critically important for future international tribunals, where state perpetrators will be held accountable for every life lost.
As a reminder, an eight-year-old boy was killed and twelve others were injured in the Russian strike on Cherkasy on the evening of April 14.
As a result of the attack on Kyiv on April 16, a 12-year-old boy and a 35-year-old woman were killed.
