Video: Kyiv is preparing for a circular defense amid the threat from Belarus
Ukraine is stepping up defensive measures in Kyiv and the surrounding region due to the possibility of new attacks from the north. Russia is considering options for strikes from Belarus and the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation toward the Chernihiv and Kyiv regions. In light of this, preparations are underway in the region to strengthen the defense of populated areas, particularly through the establishment of perimeter defenses.
This was stated by Oleksiy Danchin, head of the Vyshhorod District Military Administration, at the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities in Slavutych, according to the “Judicial and Legal Gazette.”
According to Danchin, the relevant measures are being implemented in accordance with a decision by the military command.
“There are tasks regarding preparations for defense, including the circular defense of settlements in the Kyiv region. We have 32 of them, including the city of Kyiv,” he stated.
On May 21, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Slavutych and discussed the defense of the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions with community leaders. He reported that the regions are working to strengthen defensive structures and fortifications, adding that border reinforcement will be an additional measure.
As a reminder, Ukraine is warning Belarus about the consequences of any potential actions.
Alexander Lukashenko stated that he is allegedly ready to visit Ukraine and discuss relations with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In Kyiv, the response to such statements was as restrained and firm as possible, with officials reminding him of Belarus’s role in the war.
