Video: Moscow and the Moscow Region came under a massive drone attack
On the night of August 18, Moscow and the Moscow Region came under a massive drone attack. Russian authorities reported hundreds of drones, some of which were allegedly shot down by air defense systems, and restricted operations at the capital’s airports due to the threat of attack.
Fires broke out in several residential buildings as a result of the chaotic response by Russian air defense forces and falling debris.
Sergei Sobyanin, the mayor of the Russian capital, traditionally reported that Russian Defense Ministry units had allegedly completely shot down all aerial targets approaching the city. Over the course of several hours, the official released a series of reports claiming the destruction of more than two dozen UAVs heading toward Moscow.
“Six UAVs flying toward Moscow were destroyed by the Ministry of Defense’s air defense system. Emergency response specialists are working at the crash site,” Sobyanin stated in his first address. “Seven more drones have been destroyed. Emergency response specialists are working at the crash site. An attack by ten drones heading toward Moscow has been repelled,” the mayor of the Russian capital later added.
