Video: A 500-kilogram Russian KAB was found in a park in Sumy
In Sumy, a 500-kilogram Russian aerial bomb equipped with a guidance and correction module was discovered in one of the city’s parks; it had failed to explode upon impact. On August 6, the Sumy Regional Police reported that the enemy munition had already been defused.
According to law enforcement officials, the aerial bomb was found in one of the city’s green spaces. Police bomb disposal experts and sappers arrived at the scene with specialized equipment to defuse it.
Ihor Chernyak, head of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service of the National Police Main Directorate in Sumy Oblast, stated that the device was a half-metric-ton high-explosive aerial bomb equipped with a universal guidance and correction module (UGCM), commonly referred to as a “KAB.”
According to him, such an aerial bomb is capable of traveling dozens of kilometers through the air and striking designated targets. However, in this instance, the munition did not detonate upon impact.
Upon receiving the report, law enforcement officers and rescue workers cordoned off the area to ensure public safety. Subsequently, the aerial bomb was defused and, using specialized equipment from the State Emergency Service, transported to a designated site for subsequent disposal.

As a reminder, on the morning of July 19, Russian troops carried out an airstrike on Sumy, using seven guided bombs. The city’s civilian infrastructure was hit.
