A fire broke out at one of the largest chemical plants in Cherepovets, Russia—a facility belonging to the PhosAgro Group.
According to preliminary reports, the facility was attacked by drones, after which a fire broke out on the plant’s grounds.
Local residents are posting videos showing thick black smoke in the city’s industrial zone.
At the same time, regional authorities have officially reported only the alleged downing of several drones and have not confirmed the fire at the plant.
The facility in question is JSC “Apatit” (Cherepovets-Azot)—one of the largest producers of ammonia and ammonium nitrate in Russia, which are used, in particular, in the production of explosives.
OSINT analysts report that two ammonia production facilities were hit, where a fire has been confirmed.
According to their estimates, the affected facilities account for about 6% of Russia’s ammonia production.
Some international partners have appealed to Ukraine to cease attacks on Russian oil refineries due to the risk of exacerbating the global energy crisis. Kirill Budanov reported this in an interview with Bloomberg.
