A Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier and his civilian wife passed information about the Defense Forces to Russia

Under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense Affairs of the Eastern Region, a member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and his civilian wife were notified that they are suspected of treason. They are charged with committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, in late May 2026, the servicemember made contact via Telegram with a representative of the aggressor state’s intelligence services. The man voluntarily agreed to cooperate with him and pass on information to facilitate subversive activities against Ukraine.

Over the next three months, acting on instructions from the Russian representative, he collected and transmitted information about the locations of personnel, military equipment of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, other military formations, and fortifications.

The servicemember involved his civilian wife in these illegal activities; she sent the Russian intelligence representative data on the locations of military equipment in the Kirovohrad region, a power substation in the Poltava region, and a thermal power plant in the Kharkiv region.

In late July, while near one of the settlements in the Kharkiv region, the servicemember transmitted to a Russian representative the coordinates of a platoon strongpoint—which is part of the overall defense system of the city of Kharkiv and where personnel of the Ukrainian Defense Forces were stationed.

On the same day, he provided the coordinates of an area where military equipment was being transferred for subsequent movement to other locations.

In August, the suspect provided information on the location of another platoon strongpoint (checkpoint), as well as the personnel and military equipment of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

The representative of the Russian special services used the information received to determine the deployment and movement of personnel and military equipment of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, as well as the location of fortifications. This information was subsequently to be used to prepare shelling and plan combat operations by Russian armed formations on Ukrainian territory.

The servicemember and his civilian wife were exposed and detained during another data transfer in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The actions of both individuals were classified under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—treason, that is, the provision by a citizen of Ukraine of assistance to representatives of a foreign state in conducting subversive activities against Ukraine, committed under martial law.

At the prosecutor’s request, the court imposed pretrial detention without the possibility of bail on both suspects.

The pretrial investigation is being conducted by the Investigative Division of the SBU Directorate in the Kharkiv region, with operational support from the SBU’s Department of Military Counterintelligence.

This was reported by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense in the Eastern Region.

The SBU detained a Russian agent in the Poltava region who was planning the assassination of a military unit commander.

Earlier, a female officer of the General Staff was detained for accepting a bribe of 14,000 dollars.

In the Chernihiv region, a detained deserter attempted to offer a bribe of 40,000 hryvnias.

In Kyiv, a scheme to evade mobilization involving a former official was uncovered.

The SBU and the National Police uncovered 12 schemes to evade mobilization in eight regions.
