Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the Russian strike on a nuclear facility in the Kyiv region
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted strongly to the overnight attack by Russian occupation forces on the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility in the Kyiv region.
The head of state called this incident yet another manifestation of unprecedented terrorism that poses a direct threat to global security.
According to him, an enemy Shahed-type strike drone deliberately targeted one of the country’s most important critical nuclear infrastructure facilities.
“Russia deliberately struck this very nuclear infrastructure facility. As of now, there is no exceedance of background radiation levels. But there is definitely an exceedance of Russia’s already sky-high audacity. Ukrainian rescue workers extinguished the fire at this facility following the strike. And real new steps are needed from the international community so that the Russians feel that their terrorist war is a blow to Russia itself,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in his official address.
Currently, Ukraine’s diplomatic and relevant agencies have launched a large-scale effort on the international stage to document this crime.
According to the head of state, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Energy, and other relevant agencies are already providing detailed information to international partners, including the IAEA, regarding the incident in the Chernobyl zone.
The president emphasized the urgent need to immediately increase economic and political pressure on the Kremlin, as well as to adopt new, tough international measures in response to such brazen attacks.
