Another child has been successfully brought back from the occupied Kherson region
A 9-year-old girl, who had been living with her family in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region since the start of the full-scale invasion, has been returned to territory controlled by Ukraine. Due to constant pressure from the occupying authorities, her parents were forced to hide her, limit her social interactions, and restrict her access to education.
Thanks to joint efforts, the girl was successfully evacuated from the occupied territory. She is currently in a safe place in territory controlled by Ukraine.
Her return was made possible through the joint efforts of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights and the mediation of U.S. First Lady Melania Trump.
“Since the beginning of 2026, 117 children have already been returned to territory controlled by Ukraine from the temporarily occupied part of the region. Among them are children with parents, as well as orphans and children deprived of parental care,” Prokudin said.
