Attempted assassination of hostile GRU General Alekseyev: what people in his home village in Vinnytsia region say about him
An attempted assassination of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, First Deputy Head of Russia’s GRU, took place in Moscow on 6 February. Alekseyev is described as being responsible for supplying Novichok to Salisbury and for the creation of the Wagner private military company.
This was reported by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
Alekseyev was born and raised in the village of Holodky in Ukraine’s Vinnytsia region. Former classmates and local residents recall him as a quiet, intelligent and diligent pupil who was actively involved in school life. Lidiia, one of his classmates, said she could never have imagined that her former schoolmate would go on to oversee military operations against Ukraine.
War veteran Oleksandr Zahorodnii, who helped Alekseyev’s family with household work after the general’s mother passed away, expressed outrage that Alekseyev was able to freely visit his home village in 2014, during active hostilities. Locals also report that the general’s children live in Europe, reportedly in Germany.
Due to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, Holodky is currently without electricity for 19–20 hours a day, with missiles and drones regularly flying overhead. The village has lost three fallen soldiers and has two servicemen missing. Local residents openly condemn the actions of their former fellow villager and say he must be held accountable for the suffering inflicted.
Earlier, details were published about who the nearly eliminated General Alekseyev is.
Russia’s FSB has also claimed that suspects detained in connection with the attempted assassination of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev have confessed their guilt.
