Zelenskyy outlined two possible scenarios for how events might unfold before winter
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that two scenarios are possible before winter sets in: negotiations with the Russian Federation—the aggressor state—to end the war, or an escalation of hostilities with a possible increase in mobilization in Russia.
Zelenskyy made these remarks at a press conference with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, according to Ukrainska Pravda. He said that Ukraine’s priority is the opportunity to sit down at the negotiating table with Russia and end the war.
The president also reported that he had received a comprehensive intelligence briefing. He said that there are people close to Putin who foresee an economic and logistical collapse and want the war to end.
At the same time, Zelenskyy stated that there are military officials who seek to expand the war and increase mobilization. “Therefore, we must prepare a plan for getting through the winter,” the president said.
In late May, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine has a “window of opportunity” until next winter to negotiate with Russia to end the war. On June 25, he also announced the approval of a 40-day operation by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) aimed at influencing Russia to bring the war to an end.
