Zelenskyy Outlined a Condition for Halting Attacks on Russian Oil Refineries
Ukraine is ready to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries in response to specific steps by the Kremlin aimed at de-escalation.
The head of state emphasized that Ukraine has sought peace from the very beginning of the war and has already put forward dozens of diplomatic proposals on how to bring it to a dignified conclusion, guarantee security, and prevent new invasions by Russia.
“A dialogue is currently underway with President Trump and the United States. We are also considering ideas that could bring peace closer, starting with decisive steps toward de-escalation. Ukraine’s energy sector, critical infrastructure, and our food exports must cease to be targets for Russia, and this will prompt us to take corresponding steps toward de-escalation,” the president noted.
Zelenskyy added that the Ukrainian side is ready to work on solutions and discuss this issue with partners on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The aggressor will also suffer losses
“The days when only the country under attack suffered are over. The nature of war today is such that the aggressor will also suffer losses. This has become possible thanks to technology. The strength of national leadership can—and must—ensure de-escalation, security, and peace,” he emphasized.
In addition, the head of state stressed that “the war against Ukraine and common sense” must be brought to an end.
“From the very beginning of the full-scale invasion, its consequences have been far-reaching: casualties, the destruction of cities and villages, threats to food security, challenges in the energy sector, as well as an extraordinary pace of technological development—in particular, the emergence of autonomous drones and the rapid advancement of strike capabilities the world has never seen before," his statement reads.
Zelenskyy concluded that each new week of the war brings even more problems.
