In Balakliya, Kharkiv Oblast, two oil and gas industry workers were killed as a result of a Russian attack on September 18. Both men worked for Naftogaz and were 57 years old.
A Russian attack on Balakliya in the Kharkiv region claimed the lives of two oil and gas industry workers. On the evening of September 18, Russian troops attacked the city with “Shahed” strike drones. As a result, two employees of the Naftogaz Group—Oleksandr Ivchenko and Roman Zameta—were killed. “On September 18, two of our colleagues—Oleksandr Ivchenko and Roman Zameta—were killed as a result of a Russian ‘Shahed’ strike on Balakliya in the Kharkiv region,” the company said in a statement. Both men were 57 years old.
Who Were the Deceased Employees?
Oleksandr Ivchenko worked for many years at the “Ukrgazspetsbudmontazh” branch. He joined the company when it first began operations. In recent years, Ivchenko worked as a lead specialist in accounts receivable and accounts payable. The company reported that he is survived by his wife and daughter.
The second victim was Roman Zameta. He had worked in the oil and gas industry since 1999—more than 25 years. Zameta was an operator of a cementing unit at the Shebelynka Cementing Shop of the “UGV-Service” branch. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
Naftogaz Honored the Memory of Their Colleagues
The Naftogaz Group expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased employees. “May our colleagues rest in peace. Our sincere condolences go out to the families, friends, and everyone who knew Oleksandr and Roman,” the company stated. The employees’ deaths occurred during yet another Russian attack on the Kharkiv region. The region is regularly targeted by Russian drones and missiles.
Balakliya is located in the Izyum district of the region and has been repeatedly targeted by Russian attacks. Residential buildings, businesses, energy infrastructure, and other civilian infrastructure have suffered as a result of the shelling. This time, the Russian strike claimed the lives of two men who had worked in Ukraine’s oil and gas industry for many years. Their families have been left without husbands and fathers. The Naftogaz Group reported their deaths on September 22.
Ukrainian defense forces regained control of new areas of territory between Dvorichna and Zapadny in the Kharkiv region.
