Romania scrambled F-16 fighter jets in response to an aerial target near the border

On the evening of September 27, the Romanian military detected an aerial target moving from Ukrainian territory. In response, F-16 fighter jets from the Romanian Air Force were scrambled.

 

This was reported by the Romanian Ministry of Defense.

The Ministry of Defense’s radar surveillance system detected an aerial target moving within Ukrainian territory, near the border with Romania north of Kiliya-Veche.

In response, two F-16s of the Romanian Air Force, which were on combat alert as part of the Air Policing mission, took off from the 86th Air Base in Borcha to monitor the situation.

The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations to implement public alert measures in the border county of Tulcea, and at 8:35 p.m., a RO-Alert notification was sent.

According to radar data, the aerial target entered Romanian airspace near Cătălchiu and was moving along the border. Its signal disappeared from radar screens approximately 10 minutes later near the village of Somova.

The air raid alert in Tulcea County was lifted at 10:05 p.m.

On the morning of September 28, a specialized team from the Romanian Ministry of Defense will set out to survey the area.

Earlier, Russian drones entered the airspace of Romania and Moldova.
