Zelenskyy explained the key flaw in Trump's plan to end the war in Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed serious concern over the U.S. administration’s approach to ending the war with Russia.
According to the head of state, U.S. President Donald Trump and his inner circle are considering a scenario that involves territorial concessions by Ukraine and the withdrawal of troops from its own territory.
In an interview with Axios, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the recent meeting between the Ukrainian delegation and White House special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner did not yield constructive results.
The main disagreement lies in the methods for achieving peace proposed by Washington.
“I am confident that President Trump and his team want to end the war. My concern is that they see only one way to do this. They see no other way except for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from our territory. But why should we pay for this?” the Ukrainian president emphasized.
He added that this approach ignores the fact that Ukraine is not the aggressor in this conflict.
Zelenskyy also warned of a possible increase in diplomatic pressure on Kyiv in the near future.
In his view, as soon as the active phase of the U.S. confrontation with Iran is over, the American government may begin to demand with renewed vigor that Ukraine agree to cede territory in order to quickly end hostilities with Russia.
The president emphasized that international partners do not sufficiently appreciate the risks that such a forced peace poses to the country’s future security.
Concessions to the aggressor could set a dangerous precedent and do not guarantee long-term stability in Europe, while leaving Ukraine vulnerable to future threats.
As a reminder, Zelenskyy discussed security coordination in Europe with the President of Finland.
Zelenskyy also explained why the trilateral meeting with Russia is falling through.
