Zelenskyy Warned of New Risks to Kyiv's Energy Sector
Kyiv remains one of Russia’s primary targets, so new attacks on the capital’s energy infrastructure are entirely possible. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian authorities understand how Russia might attempt to target Kyiv’s energy sector and are working to strengthen the city’s resilience.
The president emphasized that Kyiv has remained one of the Russian leadership’s primary targets since the very beginning of the full-scale war. “From the very start of the war, one of Putin’s main targets has been Kyiv. And it’s perfectly clear how they will try to target Kyiv’s energy sector,” Zelenskyy said.According to him, Ukrainian authorities are taking this risk into account and preparing for possible Russian attempts to strike the capital’s energy infrastructure again.
At the same time, work on energy resilience is ongoing not only in Kyiv. The president noted that communities across Ukraine are implementing plans designed to help the country weather potential new attacks. However, according to Zelenskyy, not all planned measures have been implemented yet. Some of the processes in the communities are moving more slowly than expected.
The President expressed hope that this work can be accelerated in the coming months. “I think that in the coming months, some processes that have slowed down a bit in the communities will pick up speed,” Zelenskyy said.
Thus, Ukraine is preparing for possible new Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure, particularly in Kyiv. At the same time, the government continues to strengthen the resilience of communities and finalize preparations for the heating season. Zelenskyy mentioned this during a conversation with journalists.
Ukrainian defense forces have almost completely liberated the Dnipropetrovsk region from Russian troops. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, about 10 square kilometers remain under Russian control—three small villages where, as the president asserts, there are virtually no Russian troops left.
Ukraine continues negotiations with the U.S. regarding the possibility of using Starlink on Russian territory for Ukrainian defense purposes. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the issue remains on the table, although SpaceX had previously refused to allow such use due to the risk of escalation.
