Zelenskyy stated that Russia is preparing for mobilization and is enlisting North Korean troops
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Ukrainian intelligence has detected the Kremlin’s preparations for a new wave of mobilization measures this fall. According to him, Russia may also be planning to bring in another 30,000 troops from North Korea for the war against Ukraine.
“We have detailed intelligence reports on Russia’s plans for the fall. The one thing missing from Russia’s plans is peace. Unfortunately. Not yet, anyway. Putin is laying the groundwork for an expanded mobilization. The figures on his losses speak for themselves. In just under seven months this year, 221,000 people have joined the ranks of the Russian armed forces. Meanwhile, Russian losses during the same period totaled nearly 225,500, of whom 131,000 were killed and nearly 93,000 were wounded; a significant number of the injuries are severe, as the Russians’ frontline medical care is utterly inadequate.
Putin is simply preparing to send more Russians to war. He’s disguising it with other words and signals, but he’s preparing. It is important that we and our partners apply enough pressure on Russia so that thoughts of ending this aggression become dominant—thoughts of peace, not of further Russian mobilization. Our long-range operations and our missile strikes are contributing to this. More and more Russians are taking notice of Putin’s war, are suffering its consequences, and believe the war should not be prolonged. We see this.
We also see Russia’s cooperation with North Korea. Russia wants to receive another 30,000 troops from North Korea: preparations to receive them have been underway in the Voronezh region since June. North Korea is also preparing to transfer new ballistic missile launchers to Russia. This is a threat not only to Ukraine. Russia is helping North Korea learn how to wage war, improving their weapons—and giving them experience in the actual use of weapons. All of this poses a threat to everyone in Asia who is within range of North Korean missiles. We will counter this,” Zelenskyy noted.
Since the start of the day, Russian troops have attacked Ukrainian Armed Forces positions 79 times.
