Ukrainian defense forces have advanced in the north of the Kharkiv region and prevented Russian troops from carrying out a new operation in the Vovchansk direction.

According to U.S. analysts, Ukrainian forces advanced north of Bilyi Kolodyaz, located north of Kharkiv. This is also confirmed by geolocated video footage released yesterday.

Ukrainian forces also thwarted an attempt by Russian forces to carry out an operation to raise the Russian flag in the Vovchansk direction.

“Ukrainian forces recently thwarted an attempt to raise the Russian flag in the Vovchansk direction, the ISW noted.

This information was confirmed by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. According to border guards, the Defense Forces struck Russian troops who were attempting to raise the flag.

The ISW explains that such operations are part of the Kremlin’s cognitive warfare, designed to create the impression of Russian military successes even in the absence of actual advances.

“Operations to raise the Russian flag are part of the Kremlin’s cognitive warfare aimed at creating a false impression of Russian achievements,” U.S. analysts emphasized.

Meanwhile, on August 18 and 19, Russian troops continued limited offensive operations in the direction of Velykyi Burluk.

However, according to the ISW’s assessment, the Ukrainian Defense Forces prevented Russian troops from advancing in this sector of the front.

This is stated in the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) report dated August 19.

Over the past 24 hours, 234 combat engagements were recorded on the front lines, with the most assaults taking place in the Pokrovsk direction. This is stated in the operational report from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 8:00 a.m. on August 20.

As a reminder, Kyiv and Brovary were the main targets of the Russian Federation’s offensive.

Starting in the evening of August 19, Russian troops attacked four districts of the Dnipropetrovsk region nearly 20 times. The occupiers used drones, aerial bombs, and artillery in their strikes.

Earlier, it was reported that an incident involving power grid infrastructure was recorded in the Brovary community as a result of the enemy attack.
