The Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled intensified assaults by the occupiers in the Sumy region border area
Russian troops have stepped up their attempts to breach the state border in the Sumy region, using dense vegetation to allow small groups to advance undetected.
This was reported by Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council.
Despite intense fighting in the infiltration zone, Ukrainian defenders have prevented the enemy from advancing deeper into Ukrainian territory. According to Kovalenko, Russia’s tactics involve attempts to infiltrate across the border, but as of now, the situation remains under control. Defense forces are inflicting significant losses on the occupiers and taking measures to prevent enemy units from establishing a foothold in new areas. Tensions in the region persist due to the invaders’ constant pressure on border areas.
Claims of a partial encirclement of Sumy or a critical deterioration of the situation in the region do not correspond to reality and are not confirmed by the map of hostilities. This was officially stated by Viktor Tregubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Operation, commenting on alarming reports that began circulating online.
Over the past few days, the Russian army has carried out several platoon-level assaults in three regions of Ukraine. However, these attacks are unlikely to significantly affect the course of the occupiers’ spring-summer offensive in 2026.
