The Ukrainian Armed Forces struck three Russian ships in Novorossiysk
The Ukrainian Defense Forces have confirmed that at least three Russian military ships were struck in Novorossiysk. The frigate “Admiral Essen,” the large landing ship “Pyotr Morgunov,” and the small naval minesweeper “Zheleznyakov” were hit.
Also last night, the Ukrainian military attacked a port in Dagestan, through which military logistics between Russia and Iran pass.
The ships were struck on September 9. The results of the attack were confirmed after analyzing additional data. In addition to the military ships, fuel oil storage facilities in Novorossiysk were also hit. The General Staff has not yet provided information on the extent of the damage to the Russian vessels.
The following night, on September 10, the Ukrainian military continued strikes on targets within Russia. This time, the target was the Makhachkala Commercial Seaport in the Republic of Dagestan.
A fire was reported on the port’s premises following the attack. The extent of the damage to the port is currently being assessed. The Makhachkala Commercial Seaport is Russia’s only ice-free, deep-water port on the Caspian Sea. It is also of critical importance to the Russian Federation’s transportation and logistics system.
According to the General Staff, the port plays a key role in the logistics corridor between Russia and Iran via the Caspian Sea, which is used to circumvent Western sanctions.
In particular, military supplies are transported in both directions along this route. Components and Shahed-type strike drones are transported from Iran to Russia. In the opposite direction, Russia supplies explosives, drone components, and ammunition. The facility’s location near the Makhachkala port, where the Russian Federation’s Caspian Flotilla is based, adds to its strategic importance.
