Ukrainian Armed Forces eliminate more than 990 Russian troops and over 700 drones in one day
As of 5 January 2026, daily losses of Russian occupying forces amounted to 990 personnel, more than 200 pieces of equipment and over 700 drones.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion up to 5 January 2026, Russia’s estimated losses are as follows:
- Personnel: about 1,212,520 (+990 over the past day)
- Tanks: 11,507 (+8)
- Armoured fighting vehicles: 23,857 (+2)
- Artillery systems: 35,785 (+29)
- Multiple launch rocket systems: 1,592 (+2)
- Air defence systems: 1,268
- Aircraft: 434
- Helicopters: 347
- Operational-tactical UAVs: 100,564 (+704)
- Cruise missiles: 4,137
- Ships and boats: 28
- Submarines: 2
- Motor vehicles and fuel tankers: 72,945 (+169)
- Special equipment: 4,036 (+1)
These figures reflect the continued resistance of Ukrainian forces and the effectiveness of Ukraine’s air defence systems, artillery and strike units.
Over the past day, 4 January — the 1,411th day of the full-scale war — 229 combat engagements were recorded along the front line between the Ukrainian Defence Forces and Russian occupiers. For the first time in a long period, the Huliaipole direction surpassed the Pokrovsk sector in the number of clashes, becoming the most intense area on the entire front.
