229 clashes recorded on the front line in one day, Huliaipole direction becomes the hottest
Over the past day, 4 January — the 1,411th day of the full-scale war — 229 combat engagements between the Ukrainian Defence Forces and Russian occupying troops were recorded along the front line. For the first time in a long period, the Huliaipole direction surpassed the Pokrovsk sector in the number of clashes, becoming the most intense area on the entire front.
This is stated in the report of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The General Staff noted that the enemy significantly increased its fire pressure.
“The enemy carried out 62 air strikes, dropped 185 guided aerial bombs and used one missile. In addition, it conducted 4,016 shelling attacks, including 84 from multiple launch rocket systems, and employed 5,232 kamikaze drones,” the statement said.
Russian forces shelled, in particular, the areas of Velykomykhailivka in Dnipropetrovsk region, as well as Orikhiv, Preobrazhenka, Pryluky and Zelene in Zaporizhzhia region.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Defence Forces inflicted substantial losses on the enemy. According to the General Staff, Ukrainian troops struck nine areas where enemy personnel, weapons and military equipment were concentrated, destroyed three artillery systems, one electronic warfare system and two drone control points.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also provided information on the current situation and the intensity of hostilities across all operational directions of the front.
Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk directions:
A total of 99 shelling attacks were recorded against Ukrainian Armed Forces positions and populated areas, including strikes from multiple launch rocket systems.

Southern Slobozhanshchyna direction:
Ukrainian forces stopped eight attempts by Russian troops to assault positions in the areas of Vovchansk, Starytsia, Prylipky, Fyholivka, and towards Izbytske and Kutkivka.

Kupiansk direction:
Three Russian attacks were repelled near Stepova Novoselivka, Pershotravneve and towards Petropavlivka.

Lyman direction:
Ten enemy attacks were recorded, with Russian forces attempting to storm Ukrainian positions near Novoselivka, Kolodiazne and Torske.

Sloviansk direction:
Six attacks by Russian occupying forces were repelled near Dronivka, Siversk and Sviato-Pokrovske.

Kramatorsk direction:
One combat engagement was recorded in the area of Stupochky.

Kostiantynivka direction:
Russian occupying forces carried out 18 attacks in the areas of Pleshchiivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Rusyn Yar, Yablunivka and towards Sofiivka.

Pokrovsk direction:
Over the past day, 54 enemy assaults were repelled near the settlements of Shakhove, Nykanorivka, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske and towards Novopavlivka.

Oleksandrivka direction:
Twenty-four attacks by Russian occupying forces were repelled near Zelenyi Hai, Oleksandrohrad, Sosnivka, Vorone, Oleksiivka, Vyshneve, Solodke and Yehorivka.

Huliaipole direction:
For the first time, this sector surpassed Pokrovsk in the number of enemy attacks, becoming the hottest direction on the entire front. Over the past day, 65 Russian attacks were repelled near Zelene, Huliaipole, Varvarivka, Dorozhnianka and towards Sviatopetrivka.

Orikhiv direction:
Eight attempts by Russian troops to assault Ukrainian positions were repelled near Plavni, Mala Tokmachka, Shcherbaky and Stepove.

Dnipro (Prydniprovske) direction:
No enemy offensive actions were recorded.

At the same time, the Russian army has begun using a new scheme for capturing Ukrainian cities, which is clearly visible in the example of Pokrovsk. This campaign indicates the adaptation and learning of Russian forces and may pose serious threats to Ukraine in the near and medium term.
