AFU liberated over 400 sq km in Dnipropetrovsk region — ISW
Ukrainian Defense Forces achieved a significant breakthrough in Dnipropetrovsk region, advancing 10–12 kilometers into enemy positions along two separate directions.
Since the beginning of 2026, active offensive operations have allowed the liberation of over 400 square kilometers of territory, effectively resulting in the near-complete clearing of the region from occupiers.
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the commander of the 1st Separate Assault Regiment, Dmytro Filatov, confirmed successes in the sector between Novyi Zaporizhzhia and Dobropillia.
“The regiment advanced 12 kilometers into Russian positions,” the officer said, describing the dynamics of fighting in the Huliaipole direction.
Simultaneously, airborne units report advances of 10–11 kilometers toward Oleksandrivka.
Southern Defense Forces spokesperson Vladyslav Voloshyn emphasized that the Ukrainian army has fully seized the initiative on the border of Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
Occupying forces have had no successes in the Huliaipole area over the past three months and were therefore forced to shift focus to attacks near Myrne and Charyvne.
Major General Oleksandr Komarenko reported that currently only five small settlements in the region remain under enemy control.
ISW experts, using geolocation data from March 10, confirmed the presence of Ukrainian armored vehicles in the center of Novohryhorivka.
This indicates the recent liberation of this village, as well as neighboring settlements — Kalynivske and Stepove.
A key milestone was regaining control over the village of Ternove, where previous attempts by Russian units to consolidate had been recorded.
Analysts reviewed previous reports and established that the occupiers were unable to hold positions in this area after a powerful strike by the AFU.
It should be recalled that Ukrainian counterattacks in the south may disrupt Russia’s planned spring-summer offensive.
President Zelensky also reported that this winter, the AFU held all key defensive positions.
