Trump administration prepares to supply Israel with 40,000 bombs

In the United States, the administration of President Donald Trump plans to transfer 40,000 2,000-pound bombs to Israel as part of an upcoming arms deal. The Hindu International reports, citing two U.S. officials and another person familiar with the plan.

Composition of the upcoming package

According to the publication's sources, the 2.8 billion rupee package includes 20,000 Mk84 bombs and 20,000 BLU-117 bombs. The sources disclosed this on Tuesday, September 15, on condition of anonymity, as the deal has not yet been finalized.

The U.S. Congress has been informally notified about the upcoming deal. Most of the purchase is planned to be paid for through the Foreign Military Financing program, under which U.S. taxpayers' funds are provided to Israel to purchase weapons in the United States.

Previous pause in deliveries

The 2,000-pound bombs have raised concerns over the possibility of mass casualties in the Gaza Strip. Two years ago, the Joe Biden administration suspended their delivery over such concerns, the publication notes.
