Jakarta airport suspends flights due to Anak Krakatau volcano ash
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, Indonesia, suspended flights until 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 6, due to volcanic ash from the eruption of Anak Krakatau volcano. As Channel NewsAsia reports, the restrictions were extended after an earlier decision to halt airport operations until 5:30 a.m.
Flight delays and cancellations
According to Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation, the flight suspension affected 33 flights, including international ones. Volcanic ash was detected at the airport early in the morning on September 6.
Singapore Airlines cancelled two flights to and from Jakarta on Saturday, September 5. Another airline flight to Jakarta, scheduled for Saturday evening, was postponed until Sunday afternoon. A flight from Jakarta to Singapore that was due to depart on the morning of September 6 was delayed until 3:50 p.m.

The eruption continues
Anak Krakatau has been erupting since late Friday, September 4. Singapore Airlines said that other of its flights between Singapore and Indonesia could also be disrupted due to the changing situation.
Indonesia’s disaster mitigation agency said on September 5 that there was no immediate tsunami threat due to the volcano’s activity.
